After the initial rush of excitment that accompanied the signing of Bacary Sagna, today feels like any other in this era of post Thierry Arsenal. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not like William Gallas, demanding big name signings. I have faith in the manager and believe that da Silva and Sagna will do the job that is required of them, perhaps not to amazing effect but solidly enough to be classed as more good business by Le Prof. You need only glance at the squad briefly to see names that stand out in your mind as potential world class players, and that is what Wenger has given us throughout his years – exciting young players. Just because Liverpool splash £20+million on Torres doesn’t mean he’s worth it. Oh Fernando, as you may probably know, hasn’t managed to score more than 15 goals in a season. The fact that he failed to score 16 goals in trendy La Liga, means that a lot of people saw him not score but liked the way he did it. If the Croatian league was half as cool, would a lot more Gooners feel satisfied that Eduardo is the next step in the evolution of the Arsenal attack?
So then, it’s with some aprehension that I bring you the story of The Email. The Online Gooner has apparently been handed a leaked email from Arsene to the board with his squad list containing players on their way out and their desired replacements. Personally, I think this is bull. All the players mentioned, we’ve been linked with all summer and the whole thing stinks of a rouse. It’s hard to tell with these things, it might well be true but I have my doubts that a private email from Arsene to the Board could get leaked so easily.
Some slightly more credible news comes from Spain (I know, I can’t either) where Cesc has told Real Madrid ‘no thanks’. Stories are flying around about crisis talks were needed to prevent Cesc from leaving. Again this is probably media sensationalism, but Cesc is quoted as saying he spoke to Ramón Calderón, the Real president, and Sporting Director Pedrag Mijatovic. For this to happen either permission was granted by Arsenal, or it wasn’t. Sound familiar? I don’t think I could cope with another saga like last summer’s so I’m maintaining an opinion that it’s just more bull.
Purple nosed Scot, Sir Fergie of Trafford Has rubbished claims that Arsenal will struggle without Thierry Henry.
He said “They’ll be in the top four. I’m more convinced they will be in the top four without Thierry Henry. “I just thought it was time for him to go. Arsene Wenger knew that, and I think they’ll do better”
Obviously, some quarters will hail Fergusson a genius for his ability to wind up Arsene with his mastery of mind games. Other’s might see it as a little nod from one manager to another recognising the ruthlessness shown in disposing of the star centre forward.
That’s pretty much your lot today.
Have a good one
